Why a pool cover?
There are four very important reasons for opting for a pool cover.
Prevention, both on the part of those who educate and care for them on a day-to-day basis, and on the part of government bodies that have an obligation to legislate and create a legal framework for all types of swimming pools - both public and private. A framework that already exists in other countries and which should be exhaustive, covering all stages of the use of this equipment, from construction, installation, management, operation and maintenance.
These measures should not only include greater vigilance, but also the mandatory placement of fences, protections and/or covers, which can make all the difference in a moment of distraction.
Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in Portugal and although the numbers are falling, it's important not to neglect prevention. And, unfortunately, swimming pools are the place where these drownings happen most, mostly with children up to 4 years old and in the summer months.
These figures are not surprising, but they should be challenged. When we analyse them, we realise that swimming pools, especially private ones, are places that are easily accessible to young children, most of whom don't yet know how to swim, and that they are more available and more desirable in the summer months.
But if swimming pools are used the most in the summer and accidents happen the most, shouldn't this prevention take place earlier, during the colder months, so that everything is operational during the summer?
Curiously, and contrary to what you might think, Coverpool's data shows that despite a growing demand for roofing, this is mainly between June and September. In other words, the wise old maxim, don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today, is not yet a reality in the world of roofing.
So if you have a pool at home, take advantage of these colder months to invest in prevention, with the added benefit of being able to enjoy your pool all the time.
